Another country, another “Hana Yori Dango” remake.
ABS-CBN, a major television network in the Philippines has bagged the rights for the fifth— and as of this writing– current “Hana Yori Dango” remake. If you check the network’s Wikipedia page, listed under the ‘Upcoming Shows: Foreign Adaptation’ is the said drama. But unlike the Korean version which takes after the Japanese dorama, the Philippine remake will follow the “Meteor Garden” format instead.
Aired in 2001, “Meteor Garden” was the first TV adaptation of the “HYD” manga. It became an instant hit all over Asia especially in the Philippines.
This is not the first time the Philippines is remaking a huge Asian drama. Just last year, Filipinos were treated to their own version of popular Korean dramas “My Girl” and “My Lovely Samsoon”. With the success of these remakes, Philippines is set to get more adaptations of Asian (mostly Korean) dramas including “All About Eve”, “Full House”, and if you look closely at that screen cap, you can see “Lovers in Paris” and “Princess Hours” too.
The casting for this new remake is yet to be finalized but the network already listed Sarah Geronimo, a famous actress and singer in her country, to play the role of San Cai/Makino/Jandi.

Guys, dont you understand what the blogger wrote? It was said that the philippine adaptation will be following meteor garden. Meaning, they are already college students. Unlike in the japanese and in korean, they are highschool student.
Regarding sarah geronimo, it was final that she will be portraying the role as san cai or jandi. And about the f4, management should call an audition for their part, just like what taiwan did. The reason why we like korean shows so much is that, we really dont kn0w the real personality of the cast. We usually stick to what they portray. You get what i mean?
I am really excited about the philippine adaptation because it will surely a big hit.
It will be aired by next year maybe. I hope they will follow the real story and not to lead in changing it and becomes a disaster. Lets just wait for it. Anyways, for the koreans and filipinos, here are my preferred cast for boys over flower philippines:

Location-i think holy angel university in angeles city pampanga will fit the best school for the show. Holy angel was owned by the nepomucenos i think. And they are the richest family in that place. They owe a mall , school, subdivisions, real estates, and others, which they name it under theyre surname. Like nepo mall and nepo subdivisions. The buildings in the school were named under theyre family. All settings in the show are accessible in that school such as the theater, rooftops, oval, and others. And the scenic place is like a korean american place. Hope they will shoot there.

I was also thinking of stars who would fit each role and I thought Sarah Geronimo will fit Jan Di’s role. I never thought I was right. hehehe But I think they will have some problems because remember Sarah doesn’t like kissing and intimate scenes… She’s conservative!

Jan Di- Kim Chiu since Ms. Chiu already played a “fighting” role. Because ShanCai/Jan Di is a kind of girl that will not give up until the very end. The remake is about 2-4 years from now! (2009)

Nag-usap na po ung producer ng “Boys Over Flowers” korean Version at Group Eight [Japanese Agency responsible for the remakes of this] na 2-4 years after ng isang remake tsaka lang gagawa ng isa pang remake!!! Edi ang tagal pa nun! Sa tingin ninyo pa kaya na magsu-suit pa si Sarah Geronimo dun??!!!

As for the Shan Cai role…ok lang si Sarah, pero I think na flash in the pan lang yung performance nya sa “A Very Special Love.” Medyo nakaka-asar sya sa “You Changed My Life” eh. Si Maja naman, di babagay kung si John Lloyd si Dao Ming, mas may chemistry sya kay Sarah nga lang.
And oh, kung Kanto Boys nga ginamit, at least may potential sila to make hit concerts gaya ng Taiwanese F4. If anything, sa humor tayo magiging original, dahil sa kakuletan ng kengkoy na cast ^_^

That’s Just Gross! Why does ABS-CBN always make remakes of foreign series? Don’t they get that the Filipino actors and actresses make people throw up because they suck at acting and look horrible! I think it would be better if there would be no remakes of this drama series to preserve its essence to the filipinos.If they insist it would be much better to make a remake maybe ten years from now ,because right now its still fresh on the people they will easily compare the different versions to our own version so as the characters,As of now filipinos are hook in to the characters of the Korean Version even the series has ended they haven’t still move on ,so why rush things out besides it would take a lot of money to surpass the other versions the Japan Ver. used Airplanes so as the Korean Ver. the Korean even use ships Both Versions went to different places the Koreans went to Macau the Japanese went to New York and some other places what’s even exhilirating are the sports car used by the F4..
China has just make a remake and the result was not that good so we just don’t need to rush things out it’s abig production everything must be planned carefully and characters must be fresh (which means new to the people’s eye)for an instance I hate the celebrity due to her record and past shows of course it would make me not to watch the show…so maybe TEN YEARS from now I’ll be able to see The Philippine F4

woww.. brat boy beyond?? what is the exact menaing of this? boys over flowers and hana yori dango are both affliated with the manga, and meteor garden atleast showed during the series why it was called that. ( shancai and dao looking through the telescope to watch the meteor shower, and him giving her the necklace.) plus, meteor garden sounds legit.
but brat boy beyond? what the heck are they thinking? the taiwanese, japanese and korean audience are just gonna laugh at the filipino version. title palang baduy na. and the cast?! are you serious? those guys are nothing compare to all the other guys who played f4. imagine if we ever released this version in other countries? think of how retarded we look for even attempting to re-do this. i suggest just leave it alone. the other 3 versions are already good. let’s leave it the way it is. spare us filipinos some face. I’m one of the biggest fan of Ms. Sarah G…nakakahurt naman ung mga sinabi mo about her. Wla kang karapatan para pagsalitaan siya ng ganyan.
Personally, I Don’t Like Sarah Geronimo to portray the lead female character, first of all her face is a little bit mature, she’s too tall, not so charming and too feminine. My second point is we all know that she’s not allowed to shoot some kiss scenes even though it’s just a smack, and my last reason is I can’t imagine her playing a tough girl yet so cute. Well for the F4, I think it would be amazing if members of Gigger Boys will portray it, Gu Jun Pyo will be the ever handsome, Enchong Dee (even though he’s a swimmer) Yoon Ji Hoo can be the silent but smart looking Robi Domingo, cute and charming AJ Perez as So Yi Jeong and maybe Aaron Villaflor would be Song Woo Bin. I think Geum Jan Di could be Nicole Uysiuseng because it would be nice if she’ll be given a big break like this The management should experiment for unknown talents right? Lauren Young would be perfect for Ga Eul, I think and I shouldn’t forget about Gu Jun Pyo’s sis, I think, Yeah Toni G. will fit the role and the three mean girls could be Erich, Melissa and maybe Beauty Gonzales……. How About that?

I think the best place for the school scenes(outside) is UST(University of Santo Tomas, Manila), for its very elegantly designed buildings and parks…And for the classrooms…I think it would be better if they would be creating a very lavish and stylish classroom specially for the drama adaptation… It’s not necessary that this drama should be taped in just only one location,..

Sarah G. is a good actress, but I think, she will just make an O.A. version of makino/jandi/san chai. And she’s also a singer. And masyado na syang popular kaya madaling pagsasawaan ng tao ang remake pag nagkataon.
And sana, wag naman nila magmadali sa pag-remake. kakatapos lang ng BOF sa Philippines. Pag minadali nila yun, hindi maganda ang kalalabasan. magpa-audition na sila ngayon. Tapos i-train sa acting at sa kung anu pang special skills meron ang characters nila. Kahit abutin pa ng 2013 yan, ok lang, basta maganda. Pati mga locations. I’m sorry to say but i really don’t like Filipino remakes of dramas. they kind of ruined all of my favorite dramas (My Girl and Lovers in Paris) and now they want to do a remake of this one?! please no more…. i like how Boys Over Flowers kept it short but sweet and Meteor Garden had a lot of comedy and romance. what they both had in common was it was that they didn’t put a lot of “drama” into the drama itself. they just kept it sweet and romantic which made people enjoy watching it. Filipino remakes are too long and they put wayyy too much unnecessary crying which makes the series too overly dramatic and then i loose interest quickly. So please ABS-CBN….just keep this short but sweet… and not long and overly dramatic…. ~peace~

I know the remake is going to push through pero sana hindi na lang…I don’t think they will make a good version. Meteor Garden, Hana Yori Dango and Boys Before Flowers were great…I think three remakes is enough. Besides, Korea’s version was the best for me since they did mix both Taiwan and Japan story. All of our remakes are really not that good. Sana lang hindi tayo ang magiging worst version of Hana Yori Dango…too embarrassing…Sana lang talaga wag na.

How about the Philippines just leave BOF alone? Everytime they do a remake they always screw it up and try to add some unnecessary nonsense to make it “their own”. In the end the show ends up boring and annoying.

I am all for the Philippine version of HANA YORI DANGO (by the way, it really pisses me off that people often refer to the Korean version whenever another country chooses to make a remake of this story when it wasn’t even a good enough remake anyway and it was not even the original. Get it?!). Yes, Hana Yori Dango is the original Japanese title of the one that started it all: the manga. I am a huge, HUGE, hardcore fan of the Japanese version. It is the best remake out of the three; it was perfect, heartwarming and absolutely hilarious. The main actors Matsumoto Jun and Inoue Mao are irreplaceable, especially Jun. They had amazing chemistry and they portrayed their roles very well. It was as if they were actually born to portray them, unlike the Korean drama. Lee Min Ho was gorgeous but his Jun Pyo was too soft and cowardly. And Ku Hye Sun? She destroyed the original character Makino Tsukushi. You cannot even see the essence of the original characters. And they even made the drama even sadder than the manga. There was so much crying and angst, it exhausted me. At least the Japanese version still managed to capture the humor and light tone of the manga even when things took a more serious turn.
It’s ridiculous that you guys hold the Korean version in such high regard when it was even worse than the Taiwanese Meteor Garden. If you guys actually took time to read the manga instead of being immature and judgmental, then you would know what I am talking about. But you know what, I have faith in ABS CBN. I was quite impressed with how they remade the 2005 Korean drama “Green Rose”. It’s difficult to make that, mind you, because the plot is serious and heavy (it’s a Who-Dunnit-Revenge-Thriller) and the acting is demanding (being a melodrama) BUT they managed to pick the perfect actors, especially Jericho Rosales whose performance could rival that of the Korean actor Go Soo. Sure, they had to make a few tweaks here and there to suit the Filipino audience–it would be stupid to copy EVERYTHING because of the cultural differences and lifestyle–yet they managed to stay very true to the original story. This is how a remake should be. I personally think Green Rose is the best remake of a Korean drama Philippines ever made. It’s just too bad it never did as well as the others. Probably because of the time slot. As long as they won’t make it as atrocious as the American version, I have faith in the production team and director. If ABS CBN was able to get it right with a drama like Green Rose, how much more Hana Yori Dango? Which is even more of a romantic comedy genre and has a more recycled, less complicated plot?
Anyhow, I find all the negativity here astounding. What the heck? You seriously need to tone down that crab mentality. While a typical Filipino trait, it does not look good. What’s worse is that your arrogance makes you a laughing stock, what with all that jejemon way of writing and improper grammar. Before you even put down other people, please look at yourselves and see if you even embody the perfection you assume you possess. And the choices you picked are so wrong! John Lloyd Cruz? Are you serious? Pfffftttt. It’s either the actors are too old or their acting capabilites don’t match. It’s obvious you didn’t even make a research of the original and just based everything on popularity.
About the cast, I personally think that:
1. Kathryn Bernardo – Makino Tsukushi.
She can carry the “poor girl” look and a plain Jane if she wants to (this is important because the character is a “weed” in a literal and figurative sense, as opposed to the four “flower” boys in terms of looks, upbringing and social status). It would be best if she be allowed to mature a little before she taking on this role because right now, she seems too young, even younger than Inoue Mao, although her age is more or less similar to her character when the manga was first released in the early 90’s. Her feistiness and fighter attitude need to be developed, honed and made consistent throughout the drama in order to give justice to the character. I would want her to follow the way Inoue Mao approached it: emotionally strong and resilient yet feminine and kind at the same time. Ku Hye Sun overdid the “tough” act that she even sacrificed her social graces in the process. I hated the way she ate and how she shouted at her mother and Jun Pyo.
2. Enrique Gil – Domyouji Tsukasa
I have no other option. Aside from being such a hottie, he is a very good actor. The various roles he played convinced me of his versatility and I am convinced that he can play a character as colorful as Domyouji. Domyouji was a borderline-sociopath bully who found entertainment in torturing others in school in the beginning and I can see Enrique portray the same thing since he was a convincing and hateful antagonist in the show Budoy. Yet he can play a softened, lovestruck guy too in the same manner as what we have seen in Princess and I. He and Kathryn have chemistry too. Maybe not as apparent as the KathNiel tandem but it’s there, just waiting to be explored further. I think the only thing he needs to work on is his comedic timing. Matsumoto Jun in the Japanese version was freaking amazing at being stupid and childish, always messing up Japanese quotes (like the original manga character) and famous authors (Humingyay!) that it was hard not to fall in love with him despite the fact that he was initially a really bad person.
3. Hanazawa Rui – ???
No clue since I haven’t seen a young actor who can pull off that serene, enigmatic, autistic personality yet AND can actually play the violin. I mean it needs to be convincing like the way Oguri Shun did it. The Korean and Taiwanese versions were a joke. The guy playing Ji Hoo couldn’t even hold the violin properly. It was just too obvious >.<
4. Matsuoka Yuki – can be portrayed by the new girlfriend (Liza Soberano, was it?) of Daniel Padilla's role in Got2Believe since she's got the sweet, innocent image of Makino's best friend down pat.
5. Nishikado Soujiroh and Mimasaka Akira – Joseph Marco and Chase Rivera.
Joseph Marco is perfect for the role because aside from his good looks, he's got the swag and smoothness of the typical Casanova. I mean, he was actually a "playboy" in real life so that will be like playing someone he can actually relate to. It will be a piece of cake for him. As for Chase Rivera, I haven't seen him act yet but from the image that I see, he's got the "gangster" look on him, which is important since Akira is the heir to a feared underground mafia fortune in the Japanese drama so it'll be okay. He looks the part of a playboy too (but preferring older women). Besides, he's not really that much of a prominent character. What is important is that it shows that he is the "glue" that keeps the F4 together.
6. Todou Shizuka – Carla Abellana/Kylie Padilla
Carla and Kylie have the beauty and elegance to pull off Shizuka's character and they don't look too old either. I think they can play the rich yet kind heiress whom Rui's been in love with since he was a kid. Too bad they're GMA talents with exclusive contracts.
7. Domyouji Kaede (the evil business momma) – CHERIE GIL
She. Is. Perfect. Or someone more "regal" like Gretchen Barretto.
8. Domyouji Tsubaki (the tough older sister) – I still can't decide yet. I would be okay with Angel Locsin because she can act "tough" and so she can probably whip her "younger brother" in his place but I don't know. There are others who could still portray her better.
9. Makino's family – Leo Martinez (father), Malou De Guzman (mother), Nash Aguas or any teen actor (little brother). I believe those two veteran actors can bring life to the screen as Makino's parents without being overbearing and annoying.
10. Ookawahara Shigeru (the spunky fiancee) – Valerie Montenegro
Seeing her, especially with that pixie cut, and her interesting sense of fashion is like seeing Shigeru come to life. She should transfer to ABS CBN for this to happen.
11. Mean girls – anyone really…I don't care.
So the above is my dream cast. Yes, I support a Filipino remake as long as the network would give it their best, from production, directing, set, locations, and actors, then I am all for it. And I do mean best, as in a drama that we can show off to the world and not be ashamed of. Hana Yori Dango as we all know is a very popular Asian drama and it has fans in different parts of the globe, not just Asian, but American, Latin, Middle Eastern too. We need to be at par with its predecessors in ALL aspects.
